The Arusha Technical College was established in 1978 jointly by the Governments of the United Republic of Tanzania and Germany also known as FRG-Federal Republic of Germany “West Germany”, under the name of the Technical College Arusha (TCA).
The College is located at the Central Business District of the Arusha City which is the Northern Tanzania’s center of agriculture, commerce, trade and tourism. Arusha City is also the Head Quarter of the East Africa Community and is the central point in Africa between Cape Town and Cairo. It is surrounded by famous mountains such as Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru.
In addition, it is the door to the world’s great wildlife refuges including Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti and Tarangire. All these make the location of the College an ideal place for studying.
Arusha Technical College Registration and Accreditation
The National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) has registered and fully certified the College to train technicians and engineers in recognized areas. The Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) has also authorized the College to teach artisans. ATC now provides a number of engineering and technical education training programs that can lead to the award of Vocational Certificates (NVA Level 1-3), Ordinary Diplomas (NTA Level 4-6), and Bachelor’s Degrees (NTA Level 7-8). Along with providing education, the College also engages in applied research in carefully chosen fields and offers community services related to the advancement, application, and exploitation of science and technology for socioeconomic development.
We can proudly say that over the past five years (5) Arusha Technical College has made remarkable achievement in all its areas of mandate. Substantive developments have been made in academics, enrolment, staff development and recruitment, infrastructure, as well as in the surrounding environment. Within the last five years for example, significant increase manifest in: academic programs, enrolment, training initiatives, and the number of academic staff. Most of the academic staff members have improved their academic status; infrastructure has been improved; and the outside environment has been given a face-lift to make it more conducive for education. Furthermore, ATC has established various local and international collaborations that are beneficial to its overall objectives and functions. QUALIFICATIONS
a) Qualified Applicants should be a holder of Certificate of Secondary Examination Education (CSEE) with a minimum of four (4) passes of “D” grades in Physics or Engineering Science, Mathematics, Chemistry, and English.
b) Applicants of Laboratory Sciences & Technology and Electrical and Biomedical Engineering programmes must have passed Biology in addition to the above requirement
c) Applicants of Computer Science or Information Technology must have minimum of four (4) passes of grade “D” in any subjects excluding Religious, Nutrition, and Needle work
d) For a holder of Certificate in Information Technology (IT) or Computer Science (CS) aspiring to join Diploma in Information and Technology and Computer Science should apply direct to the college. A holder with certificate qualification will be admitted into NTA level 5 (Technician Certificate Award leading to Ordinary Diploma Award for two (2) years.
