Today, July 13, 2018, Charles Msonde, Secretary General of the National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA), announced that the council will block the results of 13 candidates for various reasons, and that the results of 8 others will be canceled due to fraud.
Speaking to reporters, Dr. Msonde stated that candidates who were unable to complete their exams due to illness will be given the opportunity to retake them the following year.
According to Dkt. Msonde, performance in science subjects has increased from 96.06 percent in 2017 to 97.12 percent this year, while performance in arts and business studies has decreased.
“A total of 83,581 candidates, or 97.58 percent of those who took the Form Six examinations in May 2018 passed, with 34,358 girls passing and only 49,223 boys passing,” Dkt. Msonde said, adding that the results assessment showed improvement in grades I, II, and III, including a 1.80 percent increase from 93.72 percent in 2017 to 95.52 percent in 2018.
