IIHAS is located 5 kilometers south- East from International road Dar es Salaam to Lusaka- Zambia and 35 km from Makambako Town Council.
The institute formerly was registered as Ilembula Nurses and Midwives Training School (INMTS) and conducted its education programme under Ministry of Health (MOH) and Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council (TNMC).
In May, 2002, the Institute was first registered by National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) as Ilembula School of Nursing and Midwifery after NACTE as a statutory body being given full mandate to oversee and coordinate the provision of Technical education and training provided by non-university tertiary institution in a country.
The institute was awarded full registration with registration number REG/HAS/005. In November, 2014 the Institute was granted full Accreditation accompanied by changing the former name Ilembula School of Nursing and Midwifery henceforth, called Ilembula Institute of Health and Allied Sciences.
