Makerere Guild Elections 2023, Mr Robert Maseruka, a third-year Bachelor of Journalism and Communication student, was named the champion of the Makerere University guild race after defeating eight other competitors.
Mr Maseruka of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences was elected as the 89th guild president of the university on Friday, following heavy security deployments by police and the army.
Over five years ago, the college produced its last guild president. Mr Maseruka received 2,558 votes in the online voting process, which concluded Friday evening, and was declared the winner by Mr Levi Tshilumba, the chairperson of the electoral commission. Mr Hillary Oremo Odwee, his closest competitor, received 2,531 votes.

Sabiiti Akankunda received 2334 votes, Julius Birigwa received 11 votes, Baraka Nkoyooyo received 841 votes, and Mark Ssebunya received 53 votes.
Evans Murungi scored 189, Emmanuel Wanyama scored 180, and Andrew Lubinga Ssemakula scored 186.
Maseruka arrived at Kireka Hill Infant School from the hills of Nakisunga hamlet in Mukono District, where he completed his elementary school education.
Maseruka served as chapel prefect between 2010 and 2011, then as head prefect between 2012 and 2013, while in primary six and seven, before transferring to Wellstar Bright SS, Mukono.
Maseruka served as chapel prefect in senior three and four (2015-2016) and head prefect in A- level (2017-2018) during his secondary education.
Maseruka, the son of Mr Simon Ssetuba and Ms Joseline Nanfuka of Nakisunga, enrolled in Makerere University in 2020 on a private scholarship.
