The Uganda School Calendar 2022/2023 is the document adopted by a local board of education that establishes the minimum school term, student instructional year or variable student instructional year, and days that school will not be in session.
The Uganda School Calendar 2022/2023 is provided so as to keep students, faculty, and staff reminded of key dates throughout the academic semester and year. It can also be useful for prospective students, alumni, and parents as well. Each educational institution creates its own academic calendar with its own defined dates.
Education System in Uganda
Uganda’s education is divided into three distinct levels; seven years of elementary, four years of lower secondary, and two years of upper secondary education. Elementary education is the primary level, which is compulsory and, since the introduction of UPE, is free for all Ugandan children age six to thirteen.
The Ministry of Education and Sports on Wednesday released a roadmap for primary, secondary, technical and farm schools as well as community polytechnics for the academic year 2022.
In a statement released by the Ministry on Wednesday December 15, all schools nationwide will reopen on Monday January 10th, 2022, with the first term running until Friday April 15th, 2022.
The second term, according to the school calendar, will commence on May 9th, 2022 to August 12th, 2022 and the third, on September 5th, 2022 to Friday, December 9th, 2022.
The statement also adds that all learners who were in non-candidate classes are to automatically proceed to the next respective classes, and remedial classes will be offered to them in the first term to help them catch up.
According to the Ministry, only children aged 6 will be permitted to enroll in Primary One (P.1), while S.2 students whose parents had fully paid school fees prior to the second lockdown will not be required to pay for the first term following reopening.
